Step 8 to Buying a Home: I Have an Accepted Offer, Now What?
Congratulations on having an accepted offer on a house, but now what?
The first thing you need to know, is that buyer’s remorse is real! You will wake up in the middle of the night certain that you have done the wrong thing. You will think of a dozen reasons why it’s the wrong house, the wrong street, the wrong color. A few of your less supportive friends and relations will tell you are buying wrong house, the wrong street, the wrong color.
Take a breath. If you have kids, stop and remember your Lamaze classes.
In the next few steps, I will walk you through the steps we will take together to be sure that you are making the right decision.
For now, you need to get your purchase agreement to your mortgage lender. If I’m your Realtor, I’ll take care of this. Once your mortgage lender know that you have an accepted offer, they can start the process of getting you approved for the mortgage (remember, right now you’re only pre-approved). Be sure to respond promptly to your mortgage lender. They will ask you to fill out a lot of paperwork. Some mortgage lenders joke it’s like getting a financial colonoscopy. Unfortunately, it’s not optional; it’s required and the quicker you can fill it out and get it back to them, the better. Just remember the Golden Rule, in this case it says, “He Who Has the Gold, Makes the Rules”!
In the next couple of steps, we’ll open escrow and schedule your home inspection.
